Danny Mwanga re-signed with the Portland Timbers today, ending a week of speculation about his future with the club. Unlisted on the Timbers’ press release last week, Mwanga’s negotiations appear to have taken longer to complete than those of Rodney Wallace. It does not seem that Mwanga had a contract option declined, else his name would have been visible at an earlier date. The 21-year old forward was the team’s second highest paid player in 2012, according to the MLS players’ union’s website. Whether or not the club was able to restructure a deal to lower his salary remains in the ever-present MLS category of ‘Per league and club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.’
