Soccer Made In Portland: Episode 71

Portland and Seattle drew 1-1 on Saturday, so the show spends the majority of time breaking it down. Franck Songo’o's assertiveness, Danny Mwanga’s brief chance, Fredy Montero’s goal and Joe Bendik’s response and the possibility of changes coming to the line-up ahead are all talking points. Kris Boyd’s performance in the reserve game is discussed, as is what the Timbers could and/or should change when playing in San Jose on Wednesday night.

MLS in 30: Episode 10

Today’s edition of MLS in 30 takes a look ahead to a busy week of MLS action – both in league and Champions League play. First, Garrett and Jon look back at the weekend that was in MLS and how the results affect the playoff picture.

First, Michael C. Lewis of the Salt Lake Tribune joins the show to preview Real Salt Lake’s CONCACAF Champions League match with Tauro FC in Panama. Lewis explains who the key player will be as RSL is without captain midfielder Kyle Beckerman. He also lets us know why the typical “Central American atmosphere” might not trouble the MLS side as much as it usually will.

Next up is Franco Panizo of and Soccer By Ives who talks about the contrast between Rafa Marquez’s public perception and his perception within the team. Franco also looks forward to tomorrow night’s match up against Sporting Kansas City that could go a long way in deciding who’s the top dog in the Eastern Conference when the playoffs roll around.

MLS in 30: Episode 9

On another super fantastic Friday edition of MLS in 30, Garrett and Jon talk all the latest in MLS ahead of a busy weekend of games and a roster freeze looming.

First, Matt Besler, Sporting Kansas City defender, joins the program to talk about the strong chemistry Sporting’s back line has enjoyed this season and tells the guys about one of his most thrilling moments in athletic competition. Besler also gaves some insight into tonight’s fixture with the Houston Dynamo and even gives his thoughts on his alma mater, Notre Dame, moving to the ACC.

Next up is Thomas Floyd of the Washington Times. Only weeks after his debut on MLS in 30, Floyd is back and in great form discussing what the injury to Dwayne De Rosario will do to DC United’s playoff hopes. He also talks about what coach Ben Olsen will do both in response to the injury and more generally. Floyd also discusses the role of Chris Pontius after his contract extension.

The guys also give their picks for a jam-packed weekend including whether Portland or Seattle will be lifting the Cascadia Cup. Plus, the “Best ______ of the Week,” that includes a challenge for listeners from the always-zealous Garrett Cleverly.
