Regarding USMNT and fitness… I went to a coaching clinic presentation by someone who consulted with Klinsmann. He was presenting a drill that fit within the system Klinsmann used at Bayern and Germany. As he explained it, the system Klinsmann uses is very, VERY high tempo. Kind of like running a run and gun in basketball or the hurry up offense in pointy-ball. It requires higher levels of fitness than most club teams need. MLS and Scandinavian leagues run in the summer so you don’t see teams playing at that high a pace because of the heat… certainly not for 90 minutes. So I think you might be misinterpreting things as a slap in the face when it’s a requirement for a more physically demanding system. As it is, you’ve seen Klinsmann’s US teams play some scintillating soccer in spurts but never for 90 minutes.
